When in Barcelona – Part 2

by Anita

Hi everyone! This is the second part of my experience in Barcelona. If you haven’t read the first one, you can check  When in Barcelona (Part 1).
In this post, I would like to share the most magical places I found in Barcelona, where I thought I was in a Fairy Tale.

The Metropolitan Cathedral Basilica of Barcelona:

This Gothic Cathedral is a wonderful architectonic piece, inside and out. The construction lasted 150 years and was completed by the mid-15th century. It´s visited by a large amount of tourists yearly. However most of them don’t know that it has a rooftop with the spectacular 360º panoramic view of Barcelona. Also, with the cimborrio crowned by the Holy Cross and the two bell towers on the side.

To get there you have to enter from the main entrance. Go to the left side, where the small chapel is. There is an elevator which will take you up. It will cost you 3 euros to reach the top and enjoy all the view.
I planned to go on Sunday and I didn’t have luck during the afternoon. Just make sure you check the opening hours before you go. Anyway, on the last day, I gave it another try. I arrived at 9:45 and started to make the queue. Fortunately, I was the first one going up on the elevator, it means, I had the luck to make this beautiful photo, without tourists. I wasenjoy the amazing view for a few minutes till it started to get more crowded.

Magic Fountain of Montjuic:

It is without a doubt the most amazing show in Barcelona, in addition, it is free of charge.
The place is in walking distance from Plaza Espana, where the subway L1 and L3 connect.
The show has different schedules according to the season, and it is not every day, so check out the timetable online.

An hour before the show, all the square gets busy, and the good watching spots are taken. If you want the perfect place, you need to go early.
The show is a great display of water, music and light. It lasts one hour, ergo you have plenty of time to enjoy the show and take some beautiful photos and videos. I also had a look at Plaza de las Cascadas. It has 2 beautiful waterfalls in the middle, stairs both side to go up, and enjoy the view of the waterfalls and the magic fountain.

Tibidabo:

Tibidabo is a mountain overlooking Barcelona, however it is more known about the spectacular church and the amusement park.
To get there from Plaza Catalunya you can take a bus directly to Tibidabo. A cheaper way is to choose the train S1 (to the direction Terrassa) and go til the “Peu del Funicular” stop. Than you have to go up on the stairs, but you should not leave the station, just get into the funicular. It will take you to “Vallvidrera Superior”. When you arrive, the bus stop is right in front of the station. Finally, the bus 111 drops you off right next to the entrance.

The amusement park is recommended if you have small children to entertain, but since everyone of us keep our child part inside, you can get on some of the atractions and enjoy for a while this great place.
I higly recomend you to go at Sunset. The whole view of Barcelona lighting up will be an incredible experience for any age or gender.
When the sun went down, the sky turned into purple and suddenly all the lights in Barcelona were switched on. Another good tip I give to you is: that it´s way colder up there than in the city, so make sure you take am extra jacket with you.
